Momentum Logistics announces completion of 12 new warehouses at Sharjah Inland Container Depot

Derrick: new warehouses provide safe, secure, insulated storage at one of UAE’s most important logistics centres

Every month seems to bring new developments for Momentum Logistics, subsidiary of international port management company, Gulftainer, as the rapidly growing 3PL company expands its activities.

Initiatives in recent months have included the opening of new offices in the UAE and Iraq, as well as the expansion of warehousing and other services at the Sharjah Inland Container Depot (SICD), which has now been open for six years, and already undergone significant expansion in that time. The most recently completed development is the depot’s third phase of new warehousing - which offers nine new 800 sq.m. and three 600 sq.m. units bringing the total units on site to 35.

The initial vision behind SICD was to develop the site not only as the landward base of the ‘mini bridge’ linking bonded movements from Khorfakkan Container Terminal (KCT) to the heart of the UAE, but also as a logistics and distribution centre in its own right. The growth and importance of the SICD in recent years is eloquent testimony to just how successful this development has been.

Not only does the base provide a fast and easy location for consignees to take delivery (with customs and health offices on site), but additional facilities have steadily been introduced.

SICD now acts as the headquarters for Momentum and transport operations, complete with new workshops and offices are located at the site, together with other specialist activities such as container cleaning and repair.

Says Momentum General Manager Matthew Derrick: "We have steadily built up facilities, particularly warehousing, at the SICD in response to customer demand, and I’m delighted that we can now offer a further 12 units in this ideally located position - perfect for storage plus cargo distribution on adjacent uncrowded roads to all parts of the UAE".

The new warehouses provide safe, secure, insulated storage at the heart of one of the UAE’s most important logistics centres.
